Best Ick treatment for Clown Loaches

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The best treatment imo is to bump the temp up to around 86 degrees and add salt.

All things good in moderation...

Best treatment is too bump temp and add a-lil-bit of salt...

Second best treatment, if first best fails is http://www.bigalsonline.com/StoreCa...__4oz?&query=ich&queryType=0&hits=12&offset=0

Last thing I would like to add: on ANY treatment for clowns, I am a recent believer/follower in high protein diets - had a clown, would just NOT respond to ANY treatment for skinny disease - (minus the Levamisole Hydrochloride that I just couldnt get my fins on in the U.S.) - started him on a high protein diet, within 1.5 weeks he stopped loosing weight, 2.5 weeks later he was starting to slowly gain weight back - about 3.5 weeks later, he has noticeably gained weight - In the future, I think any treatment for a clown loach will include a high protein diet - seems to do them VERY good (IMO)

i feed my CLs prawn, wafers and flake food.

how much salt should i add and how often?

That ick-attack crap smells like hot garbage. Nasty. It does work, though. Despite all the negative opinions out there, I've had success with CopperSafe in my loach tanks. Its not an option if you have inverts or certain fish, but I have had no side effects in my Loaches & it simply prevents/eliminates ick better than any other product or treatment I've tried. Do some more research before trying it.

1-3 teaspoons per gal.
Start by adding about half the dose, wait 12 hours to see if other fish can handle the salinity. If all is good, dose again. This all happens while the temp. is at 84-86 degreees. Increase areation with air stone(s) or venturi on a powerhead. If you do a water change, which is highly recomended if you have substrate, you will need to replace the lost salt.

It will most likely get worse before it gets better. You should see some results in a week or so. I only dosed salt for a week since I have plecos in my tank w/the loaches. I have left the temp at 84 for a month to hatch any remaining in the gravel. I will start lowering temps. this week w/my WC and continue to do so for a few days or weeks.

Garlic, Salt, Temp up and high vit foods will help them survive.
Which is why spectrum is always a good idea to feed them when you first get them, specifically Therica A and some blanched cucumber wedges. Also helps with getting rid of internal diseases.
