Best Ick treatment for Clown Loaches

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Great Thread guys!!! I have a half dozen Loaches and just this week after returning from a work trip noticed that my two smallest are going through an Ick bout. Have had some mild success in the past with coppersafe, but did not think to add more protein to the diet. The salt is always a good idea. If I read this right, adding a little extra would be a great help right?

Yup salt does wonders for any FW sickness or injuries. Just make sure you treat it like a medicine and don't OD on it. Just use a TBSP per gallon.

The only time I've experienced an ICH outbreak is from not quarantining even after having the local fish store hold specimen(s) for at least a two week observation. From many years of personal experience, I work into the water three teaspoons per gallon of 'Instant Ocean' synthetic sea salt over a week's time making it brackish. I gradually raise the temperature to 90 degrees, and provide lots of current with plenty of aeration. I like using 'Instant Ocean' because it provides minerals and vital trace elements for healthy gill function and slime coat. Never had a loss with this method for my clown loach only tank. It may take up to a month using this method, so patience is a virtue. Major water change required after loaches recover.
