Its GE I 100% silicone. GE II is the one with the additives. It will say right on the bottle. TONS of people (including myself) have used GE I many times and have had fish living in those tanks for a long time. You can go a different and more expensive route if you want, but there is proof that GE works just fine. I just assembled an aquarium with it last week and held fine during a leak test for a week.
Nuff said.

In my opinion, some of you guys are crazy. I dont know what you are sealing, or how big the tank is, but it is not worth skimping out on. Take this guy for example-

http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/diy/27814-building-75g-all-glass-tank.html

He built a tank using half of the RVT108 (the good stuff), and half using GE I or II. Guess what happened to that seam? Take a look-

In the end its up to you, but it is not wise if you use anything but the good stuff. If you need to skimp on the three bucks, you should rethink your hobby in my opinion.

Hope I dont get in trouble for send you to a different forum, however I'd rather get banned and have you see what could happen then keep quiet and you end up with a wet floor. Hope that helps a bit...

He didn't even have a frame. If he had a frame I'm sure the tank would have been fine with GE1.

He didnt need a frame with the glass he used. It was plenty thick to support the tank being rimless. If he had used the correct silicon all the way around he would have been fine.

But, you guys can think what you like. Its not my floor. The tank may hold for a while, but if you have it holding major seams, it will leak at some point.

Thanks for the info man. I will probably go with the RTV on your suggestion, might house some rays in this tank so I don't really want to skimp on anything.

If your using GE1 on a rimless tank then personally I'd use the silicone that your talking about. The rim on tanks take alot of pressure off, with a tank that has a rim then GE1 should be fine. Of course there are better ones, I agree with that. Using them will just make it safer, not that GE1 is totally unsafe to begin with.

You are welcome to use GE silicon if you would like. I will keep using RVT whether or not I have a rim. Like I said, not worth skimping $3 in my opinion. I promise you, no aquarium builder worth his money uses GE I or II. GE's are sealants, not adheasives like RVT line of silicon.
