best knife fish for RTC tank

so ive got a small RTC in a 125 and i was wondering which knife would do best with him as he grows?
there are also 4 small tinfoil barbs in there too

Im new to knife fish so any input would be appreciated. and i would love to see pics of your knife fish
 
None to be honest...RTCs are pretty robust fish while Knives are thin. A RTC can make a meal of any Knife when it decides to. In fact, there was a member here who had a CK with a RTC of the same length, but the CK's tail is all you see from the RTC's mouth.

Agreed, indeed.
 
I don't think i've seen anything other than a clown knife with an RTC, and that CK was a good 3ft so in a hell of a lot larger than a 125! I don't think any knife is going to grow at the right rate and stay large enough not to be eaten i'm afraid. Also, 4 small Tinfoils are 4 nice meals for a fast growing RTC. If you have the space (not 125 obviously) and want suitable tank mates then rescue some big Pacu!
 
ah aiight, well im interested in getting one in the near future for a seperate tank but i want something that will be kinda active and of course a predator. ive seen the teeth on a set of jaws from a RCK and i just wunna know what you guys think would be the best knife for say a 55 to start then 125 and could it live in a 125 for life?
 
African Brown Knife are pretty commonly available and will average 8"

Notopterus Notopterus not so easy to find and are the most aggressive of the Chitala species but will go 12"-14"

Black Ghost Knife will do fine in a 55g for awhile and will definitely appreciate a 125g later on in life, but they grow slow. They then to average 16"-18"
 
yea dont worry the tinfoil barbs are much larger than the RTC is right now, the RTC is very small. yea ive seen african knifes and BGK at petsmart
 
That's alright then, Tinfoils will be fine in a 125 just get the rtc out before he's too big. Which probably won't be long:ROFL: Tinfoils are fast growers but nowhere near the same league as RTC.
 
oh i know dont worry, ive owned both before, i plan on building something along the lines of a 500 gallon ply tank onces the RTC outgrows the 125
