does the reef have any decent sized fish or are they all tiny like most lfs's...personally i think its dissappointing to go into a store and all they have are 1" fish...LOL

they have some larger ones but mostly smaller cichlids. They do have an end tank that they house the larger ones in and quite a few larger africans. They always have some nice characins and rays.

theres a place called 'Safari pets' - i think lol I know safari's in it - in Avon off the main road ( same road as the bookstore and the wall-mart) near the half-priced books. Its freshwater section is a little lackluster in selection, though they do have a huge arowna in their display tank right now, but they have looks healthy, and they seem to have an excellent selection of coral life.

we found another really nice one in Wabash its called J&K Aquariums and pets huge store lots of selection they had 3" texas cichlids for 2.99 same for jewels

Not sure where your at in Indiana but the best I have found close to me is Aquatics and Exotics....near Cincinnati in Hamilton Ohio. They have a good selection from small to large mature fish people bring in. Also have a huge shark tank/pool...not sure of the size but a guess would be 10,000 gallons.

Greentree Pet Center is alright, though it sounds like you are on the opposite end of Indiana. Greentree has a decent selection of fish, but the last time I went there, they had a lot of dead and sickly fish. They had one tank that had 5-7 silver aros in it, and only three of them were alive (though one looked like it was well on its way to joining the others :(), and they were overpriced too, I think they were selling them for $80 each and they were only 5-6" (I got mine at the same size for $40). Other than that, they are pretty good. They always have a lot of uncommon SW & FW fish.

there is 2 that i like theyre both in Terre Haute:

1.) Atlantis Aquatic gardens- they have a 300g with a tsn and 2ft plecos with other stuff, a 300ish waterfall tank thats a rescue tank with pacu and red devils, BUNCH of adult cichlids including: breeding pair of dovii, jags, oscars,JD,Fronsostas and they have a 220 or 180 tanks with Red terrors and fronsostas and they have a bug indoor kio pond with 2.5ft kio and they have a alligator and big giant tortasoises and a 125 with a breeding pair of Gt and they have a pretty good SW set up with a big reef tank. THey also have a few reptiles

2.) Inland Aquatics- i havent been there for a while but if your into SW i dont think there is anything SW that you cant find there they have a huuuuuuuuuugggggggggeeeeee warehouse filled with corals and fish they dont have anything special in FW tho

Any other Hoosiers here think that comparative to other states our LFS's suck. I suppose maybe its just grass greener on the other side at least we're north of the piranha ban. I make do with a few LFS's that wouldn't use if I had anything better - uncle bills (shakes head sadly) and the one I mentioned above is mostly for saltwater keepers - but i cant remember a really good fish store near me since Itsazoo went out ten years ago.

Im ranting I know but its a bump for a thread that brings me hope. Maybe ill here of some place Ive never been before. Anyone know of any good ones in the south side, Avon, greenwood, even Bloomigton or Nashville?

i managed to get to The Reef in Indy tonight, they do have a pretty nice selection, they had a couple fish i liked and a few fish i couldn't afford...LOL that one above^^ in terre haute deffinatley sounds like a must check out its a pretty good drive, but why not make a list of some on the way and check em all out....sounds like a fun day to me!! i appreciate everyones help in putting this list together after we get a few more i'll go back and post a recap of just the stores!! :) i love this site!
