I did the same thing as Angler. However, my only small complaint is that I can hear it ticking like a clock. Not a big deal, but something to consider.
I just use the cheap Walmart ones. A while back, I bought one of those expensive reptile/aquarium powerstrips that has a timer built in for half the outlets. That thing only worked for maybe 2 years before it slowly died. I have Walmart one that's at least 3 years old and works great

I agree^, don't buy the power strip timers. I bought two Corallife power strip timers and neither worked right!
I wouldn't buy the cheap analog timers. They tick loudly ( as Queuball said) and are not very accurate. Plus, they don't keep a 24-hour cycle - as they get older they slow down.
Intermatic digital timers are about 20 bucks. They are super accurate and reliable. Also, they have a battery backup, so you don't have to reset them after a power failure.
