I am new to the cichlids and would like to know what the best Malawi species are. I have a 90 gallon tank with 15 malawis in it already. I am looking for some good color. I have a Red Emperess that is going to be nicely colored eventually but I want something now that will stand out in the tank. Any suggestions.

Yes, list your current stock & what colors you are looking to add. There's many possibilities but you'll get more compatible suggestions if we knew what you had already.

Of what I can name in the tank I have
1 red emperer
1 yllow lab
1 orange zebra
2 peacocks (blue, pink)
3 camo looking guys
most of the other ones are just all purple with yellow fins

sorry i don't have all the names yet. hope this helps out

lol lets hope those 3 camo looking guys arent venustus! they get around 9 inches or more long-theyre haps.

the purple with yellow fins could be pse. acei's.

i like the hongi's-a few more yellow labs. i wouldnt add alot of zebra variants-they become aggressive when full grown and will dominate your tank.

Id add more yellow labs.Youre probably going to have to get rid of 2 of the venustus.Add a few more peacocks make sure they all look different and not like the red empress.
The zebra may have to go,just keep an eye on it.

you might have some issues with the 3 Nimbochromis in the tank. If anything, I'd remove them and add to the numbers of others

if i were you i would get rid of ALL of the Nim. venustus. i had one male in my 180 gallon mixed mbuna and he starting eating my fish-hey, its what they do in the wild. anything he could cram in his mouth-i yanked him out and he had a 90 gallon TO HIMSELF. he would not tolerate any tankmates. IMO, haps do not mix with the smaller malawis- they will be ok for a few months, but once they start sexually matuing, they WILL eat their tankmates..

its just what they do in nature..
