I will try this :D

Ahh, these are things I was looking for :D

So aside from Tilapis and Shrimp, what other Meaty foods do you feed?

I TRY to stick with freshwater fish for my VATF and my Rays. I figure they don't get saltwater fish in there diet in the wild. Try catfish, Tilapia and freshwater muscles. As for as Market Prawns I always look for the bags that state raised in ponds, hoping they mean freshwater prawns. I know that everyone tries to convert their fish/rays to pellets but I don't want pellets to be the main stable as it is so high in protein I worry that they will develop a fatty liver. So I try to stick with frozens and fresh with pellets as treats for the vitamins. So just try to vary the diet of freshwater fish as these will each have their own nutritional values as they will eat different foods.

Hmm... some good points I never thought of here. I will try some Catfish as I have yet to try this :D.

Off to the Market later tonight:headbang2
P.S. I made my first batch of Gelatin and im not sure it came out to good Lol. Ill wait to see if it hardens (ill let the dog taste it before the fish ;))

I feed scallops and squid to my rays in addition to shrimp and tilapia. How about earthworms? Tried catfish once but found it to be oily.

Silversides are a decent alternative. They are sold in large flat packs, disease free.

Forgot those. I collect some during the summer and fall for fish food along with sand shrimp.

Sponge- thanks
Spotfin- I tried nightcrawlers once n he ate. I'm guessing he did not like it though as he never touched them again.
FireMedic- I do indeed feed silversides, forgot to post them

Thanks for all the replys :D

I don't have any Rays but this is one of the most active sections (personally I am trying to feed better meats for my VATF, other than pellets).

Most people feed Market Shrimp and I was wondering if there is a better "Meaty" food.

IE: Salmon, Sword Fish, Scallops, Crap, Lobster etc...

Out of the common things in the Market's, what is best to feed your Rays?

I was tempted to buy some Red Salmon and Lobster but don't know if its to Oily for fish etc...

Thanks, also I just made my first batch of FireMedics Gelatin stuff (hopefuly it comes out good :D) w/shrimp, nightcrawlers and Cichlid Gold.

Well to answer your question. Maybe Tilapia?

One of my wolfs and snakeheads favorite foods is frogs and tadpoles!

However! I would probably catch flack for not saying that I know where my frogs come from, I keep them and gutload them with crickets, worms etc. They come seasonally from a pond near my house. Beware the risk of parasites!

Theres just something about my predators being able to eat the skin, muscle, bones and everything else of its prey that other things cant compare.

+1 for whole smelt.

there is something to be said for the micronutrients in the gut content. also those little dried shrimp they sell at the asian market (it's like popcorn for fish!).

i use whole animals whenever possible. wild fish don't eat fillets, they eat the whole animal.
