I have a florida gar, datnoid, and giant bumblebee cat in qt. Noticed some fish lice on the gar. Just picked them up today.

Whats the best course of treatment ? I have dimilin on hand though it may be expired as its a couple of yrs old. Also have general cure.

Dimlin or microbe lite lice treatment. GC won’t work. If it’s one or two can always pull of the fish and watch if any start to come back.

How about a copper based medication?

Should work too theoretically. I’ve never seen it used for it specifically. Believe potassium permanganate will work as well.

I have dimilin on hand. Anyone know the dosage for a 75 gal ? 1 tsp treats 500 gal. So would 1/8 tsp suffice

8.25 mg of dimilim, per 75 gallons.
It probably won't kill the adults directly, but (in the same manner as salt kills larval ick) Dimiin will kill the juvie stages. And like ick, the life cycle takes time (depending on particular species of louse), up to 3 months, it is (like ick) also temp dependent..
I have read, that the female louse prefers to lay eggs on wood, so by placing a piece of wood in the tank as a place to deposit eggs in the night, then removing it, and sanitizing it daily , the population is more quickly depleted.
Bleach, or boiling would be my choses of sanitizing.
