ok for a fluval 304 canister filter whats the best media to use?

I vouch for the filter floss collecting almost all sizes of particles that are responsible for clouding the water. I use carbon only to remove tannins and meds. Even then, I prefer water changes over carbon so I did not have to spend bucks on a carbon.

i dont under stand its my fisrt time with a canister lol sorry im a n00b but i want to do it right

Id say run the factory sponges of course. Then I run one tray of pre filter (Probably won't next time in favor of purigen. Then I run a tray of filter floss. Then two trays of bio max.

So in order from top to bottom my ideal setup in the future will be

Factory sponges
filter floss, purigen , bio max X2 trays.

I have not used a 305 in a while is it three trays or four ?

I would say filter floss then carbon OR bio media (Bio ceramic rings or substrate pro from eheim. Or seachems matrix bio media in the top two trays. But no matter what at least make the last tray a good bio media as listed above.

Use your canister for pure bio load. Fill it up with ceramic porous rings.
Not pointing a finger at you..Honest
I have seen this suggestion way beyond just a few times.
I just don`t get how to set a canister up as a "BIO" only filter.
Sure, if you don`t mind your media getting all gunked up,
With the media slowly losing it`s effectiveness as it`s surface gets covered in goo.
In my mind(I know it`s around here, somewhere:))that would be a waste of a fairly expensive piece of equipment.

im only gona use the canister no more hang on back filter. but i have piranhas so do i want all bio carbine mix buffer pads?
