I'm currently using a mixture of Sumo Red, Hikari cichlid gold and Massavore sinking pellets. I'm thinking of adding the Omega One shrimp pellets to the mix? Any thoughts or suggestion on what you have used for your FH's and Hybrids?

How you suggest I feed the sumo. I'm looking for something that can sub for live feeders.

Sumo isn't staple so you shouldn't have that be the bulk of the diet.

Sumo Original is staple, Sumo Red is not. Overall, I think that if you were to mix pellets then keep it with its brand. Mix Hikari with Hikari, Sumo with Sumo, ChingMix with ChingMix etc. And massivore for flowerhorns? I don't know about that, but you may try if you see any results for yourself. :D

Sumo is great stuff, but super expensive. Mix Sumo with Sumo only. And don't mix sinking pellets with floating pellets, it only makes a mess for you to clean. ;)

My philosophy is VARIETY. For flowerhorns, that will include reasonable amounts of spirulina and veg matter, and small amounts of red enhancing foods. So long as you have a good variety of different pellets (including some feedings with colour enhancer foods if you want that) you are more likely to be fulfilling all the fish's nutritional needs and not leaving any nutritional "holes". I rotate all sorts of different pellets, Ocean Nutrition, both cichlid and vegi pellets, Ocean free Super Louhan, Nutrafin max Cichlid Spirulina sticks, Hikari Cichlid gold and some locally made cichlid spirulina sticks. All are good quality, low in fat, plenty are high in veg matter. I also supplement with frozen prawn, bloodworm and mussel. I am hoping that this variety will cover all the essential nutrients that they need, as well as the energy and protein that they need to grow. THis variety also keeps the fish unfussy which easily allows you to add new foods if desired. It has always worked for me, and with years of keeping SA/CA cichlids I have never had one with HITH disease, which is commonly linked to poor nutrition.

You will find folks with all sorts of allegiance to certain food types but to me, both logically and scientifically it makes sense to give variety.

Scientifically speaking, all the variety a fish requires for optimum health can be gleaned from a single pellet food, if those pellets consist of a "wide variety" of high quality, highly digestible ingredients. In some cases that single pellet could end up being far more nutritionally sound, than feeding a handful of other brands mixed. For the better part of the past decade I have been doing just that (feeding a single brand), and have also never experienced HITH in any of my SA or CA cichlids, or any other health issues.

Feeding 10 different foods can work, or not, depending on the nutritional make up of each food. Feeding more, certainly doesn't equate to feeding better, a fact that many hobbyists apparently fail to grasp.

What the OP is feeding is ok, although I would recommend going easy on the Massivore. Flowerhorns do not require massive amounts of protein in their diet, especially once they begin to mature.

Thanks everyone for the feed back, every time I post I get some much knowledge from.

NLS, Hikari gold and Ching mix and grand sumo, krill to bring out the red. That's what i use along with other foods. Variety is very important.

Variety is very important.

To those who keep making this statement, could you please explain what Hikari Gold adds in nutrient value, that your other food/foods don't contain? Corn Flakes? MSG? Gluten Meal? An incredibly low inclusion rate of Vitamin C? (78 mg/kg)

Just curious with regards to the logic and/or science behind the "variety" statements.
