Let it ALL out people. Let it ALL out, don't be shy.

This guy is probably not serious. There was just another thread where it was discussed that nile monitors were horrible pets and whatnot.

And if he's serious, then he's a victim of his own ignorance and part of the reason that thousands of these animals end up dead or in shelters year after year.

OMG!!! Are you serious? Do you realize how much care they need? Do you have the right enclosure for him? Do you realize how BIG they get? I highly doubt it.
Animals are not a disposable item you just toss away once you are tired of it.

I agree...great points.

It doesn't seem like much research went into this. What do you have lined up for it once it outgrows that 75? Varanus niloticus can get up to 7 feet!! Keep in mind that you have to supply a water dish large enough for him to fit his whole body in.

So lets say he reaches the average captive lenght of about 5-5.5'...that would mean a 6' water dish and at least another 6' of cage space, but it should be much more than that, and gives you a minimum enclosure of 12'x6'.

Or you could just rent him his own apartment.:screwy:

The fact of the matter is that most people who buy hatchling nile monitors at shows don't know what they're doing, don't take care of it properly, and it usually dies withing a few months.

Its sad, but it happens to thousands of imported monitor lizards year after year.

I was sitting behind some tables at a show recently and watched one vendor sell out of 100 baby savannah monitors in 3 hours, $15 a piece. All went to little kids, teenage girls, etc, who will probably stick them in a 10 gal tank with a light bulb, where they might survive for 3 months, if that. They are almost like disposable pet. Its sickening.

Do you even know what you're getting yourself into? That's a big mean lizard! Yeah sure, I'd like to have an Asian Water Monitor but I can't devote the west wing of my house to one. But from what I've heard you don't keep pets long enough for them to reach adult size.

and i though him keeping a dovii pair in a 75 was horrible, this is just plain dumbass

just for spite... i hope that thing eats you while you sleep so the monitor can help rid the world of one more animal hording and disposing retard...

:thumbsdow If you seriously bought one, you are one ignorant and irresponsible person.
