I used pot scrubbers in the wet/dry section of the sump. I'm just filling my whole sump with media, so i'm just looking for a media that will stay fully submerged in a little section. Like i said Trying out a new style of wet/dry that I made.

For filtration use 2 Liters of Pond Matrix™ for each 200 gallons of water. Use in any pond filter. Pond Matrix™ is sufficiently large that a filter bag should not be necessary.

I'm a big fan of eheims subtrat pro, this bio media is far superior to some of the stuff out there. Well worth the extra money. Most petsmarts around my area have the 450ml boxes for $2, I think they went on clearance so I drove around to the other nearest ones and picked up about half a dozen boxes However, at the price bigals has it right now, you can't beat it. Print that out and take it to petsmart, I'm sure they will pricematch, assuming they carry it at your nearest locations.
