Putting aluminum foil behind the lights helps to make your lightbulbs more efficient, meaning more light is going to be focused into the aquarium as opposed to being scattered elsewhere. I wouldn't necessarily consider this a temporary fix, but it will help somewhat since your tank is deeper. There are really two things to consider with lights: spectrum (the Kelvin color temperature) and the intensity ( which you can measure with lumens outputted or LUX). I know purchasing light fixtures can be expensive so you may want to consider building your own flourescent fixtures. If you search youtube, you could probably find some videos on making DIY fixtures.

Hope this helps -

This won't help due to his tank depth. The frequency of the light is more important in that regard.

What will change is the surface intensity. Rather than having only the light that's projected down, you'll have a higher yield in surface light based on the reflection of light that would not have reached the tank in the first place.

The depth of your tank is more greatly at play when it comes to the color or frequency of your lights, not necessarily the intensity.

edit - this will help, but not to any exagerated effect.

thx, i did add the foil and it brighten the tank a lil, the plant are still alive but for how long i dont know...lol hopefull they hang in there just for a couple of more weeks :)
