hey im currently housing my orinos and tems in a 7 by 2 by 2 tank. I have a black backround. So my question for all the cichla experts it what kind of plant coverage is best for floating on the top of my water.... and is it good to have plants floating will it bring out the colors of my cichla. Also hoping to add some rare bass when fugu bring his in... thanks any help would be nice

I had a couple of fake plants in my cichla tank. I took the bottom off the fake plant and silicone suction cups to the bottom and stuck them at the top/in the back of the tank. During feeding, they would "hit" the food so hard it would de-suction cup the fake plant.

As for color, I think adding green plants would add more green to the cichla. As the light/s hit the plant, it will/would reflect on the fish as well.

Thanks...
That was my old setup. I miss it, but it's on to bigger and better things. Might want to check out R1-ridah's and Jcardona1's cichla tanks as well. Top notch tanks.

Out of curiosity, why do so many Cichla owners keep Silver Dollars/Red Hooks as tank mates?

Fantastic clean up crew. Plus, the Geo's, earth eaters and tin foil barbs were to small for the tank.

AGREED I HAVE HAVE ABOUT 6 SILVER DOLLARS IN MY TANK WITH MY BASS. I LIKE WATCHING THEM SWIM AROUND WITH THE BASS. I WILL DEFINATLEY CHECK OUT THERE SETUPS AS WELL. I CHECKED OUT HULONS I LOVE HIS SETUP I DONT KNOW HOW HE GET HIS BASS TO HAVE SUCH VIBRANT COLORS BUT THAT IS WHAT I AM TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH. MY ORINOS TO LOOK LIKE HIS. AND IF I GET A BAHIA KELBERI WHICH I AM LOOKING FOR I WANT IT TO LOOK LIKE KENDRAGONS HAHA

IM NOT TRYING TO COVER ALL THE LIGHT JUST FOR A MORE NATURAL FEEL IN THE TANK. I HAVE SEEN IT IN ALOT OF TANKS. I AM NOT TRYING TO GET FULL COVERAGS...ANYMORE SUGGESTIONS

I would agree with Hayn's suggestion. Native plastic plants work great.
