Best plants for my cichla

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sounds good ill start looking for some good plastic plants thanks ill try n get some pics up with a before and after

I think floating/ long grass/ and big leaves on vines look best in larger tanks. If you feed well and do water changes regularly then you will get the results your looking for as far as color. I think lighting is seriously overated big time. Most people only turn there light's on after work or after school so that's 5 hours there on and then they turn them off when they go to sleep. SO REALLY not putting much into the light theroy.

while i agree water changes and good food bring out the colors my bass show more gold in a 6700k compact fluorescent then they do in a t5 or a standard fluorescent so id say light intensity does make them look brighter but health and general care really does determine how colorful they get

with my orinos and their setup, i added alot of spirila, its long and leafy yet its not over crouding. and the bass will often just chill in it. ive got it in 3 spots from left to right with groups of 3 to 4 plants. it looks really good and with the rocks on the bottum it makes for goo asthetics as well.. like a river or stream bottum, but not over to crowded.

thansk superlaz i love your tank that would be amazing to have. I got some plants just like in pic #1 and am putting them into my tank. later today or tommorow. i feed regualrly massivore tilapia and shrimp. i Messed around with the lights and some light made my basses colors show more where others just lit up the tank. I set it up so i can just put lights on but at night since my bass tanks in my living room i put new lights thats show more color. I will try and post sopme pics. I wish i could pick up those xingus super laz just out of my ranges so ill settle for the brokopondos fugu brings in later this month. thanks guys.

To be clear, first pic is Dieselmacks old tank, the other 3 are my old tank ;)

I had a couple of fake plants in my cichla tank. I took the bottom off the fake plant and silicone suction cups to the bottom and stuck them at the top/in the back of the tank. During feeding, they would "hit" the food so hard it would de-suction cup the fake plant.

As for color, I think adding green plants would add more green to the cichla. As the light/s hit the plant, it will/would reflect on the fish as well.
