Looking for opinions on the best pump for a larger tank.

What kind of filtration will the pump be used for? A wet/dry filter? A sump with submerged media? Some type of canister filter without its own pump? A pump for a UV sterilizer? A pump for a closed loop system? How much head? Do you want a submersible pump or an external pump? Different types of filtration have different turnover rates.

That said, if you are looking for an external pump, check out Reeflos. A Barracuda Gold pump would probably work. If the flow rate is too high, the flow rate can be reduced by necking down the return pipes, and/or gate valves. There's a whole line up of external Reeflo pumps, and I'm sure there is a pump that would work for you. You can easily select the right pump based on what turnover rate you want to achieve.

Sorry the tank is currently running with 2 Fluval FX6's, I'm looking for something external pump.

Just asking never had a tank this big so I assumed I needed a pump just to make sure my fish are good.

Yes Powerheads sorry? Never needed them before.

They are useful if you have dead spots in the tank where debris tends to accumulate. I can't help you on this, but I'm sure people will post their favorite power heads.

I would just add another FX6. Two of them is probably a little light for a 330 gal aquarium.

Or, you could add two SunSun 404B filters for less than one FX6.

When it comes to filtration, if you have good water parameters, i.e., 0 ammonia and nitrite and are keeping the nitrates in check with sufficient water changes, then you have adequate biological filtration. If you have crystal clear water and are not having an issue with particulates, then you have adequate mechanical filtration. Some of us like to go overboard with filtration, subscribing to more is better, the bigger the better. It's OK to do so, but it is not necessary. So if you are satisfied with your water clarity, and are maintaining good water parameters, anything you add on will be just fluff--good fluff, but not necessary. Some of us go whole hog, calling our extra filtration "redundant filtration", and justifying all the extra stuff for this contingency or that. :) Overkill filtration is fun, but certainly not necessary. And less someone reading this thinks I'm pointing the finger at someone, I include myself in this group. . . My big set up will be using two Barracuda Golds, 2 Hammerheads and 1 Tarpon pump...overkill extreme
