BEST REMEDY FOR TORN FINS?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Month's TIME... AND GOOD WATER. I doubt a torn fin will heal in a couple days. My black arow had 2 tears on the fins when I got it a month ago and they are all gone now. Torn fins happen with fish and mother nature is the best way to cure it.

For minor stuff the best remedy is pristine water conditions.

that'll do her!

I aways just make sure my waters clean and maybe some salt if its bad melifix wont hurt

Nearly all fish get a torn fin at least once in their life. It's no big deal. Like others have already said, they grow back quickly. I have seen fins almost completely ripped off from fighting grow back in a couple months time.

Depending on how bad the tear is there really are a few options. If it is mild I would just proceed with my normal routine and basicly let the fish heal on his own. If it is a moderate tear I would go with salt and melafix. Finally if there were tears reaching the fleshy area of the fish I would probably start an antibiotic medication.

With that said the nature of the tear is very important!

you really dont need meds for any of those senarios

as levi said, keep water clean and it will heal on its own.

only use meds such as mela and or pimafix if infection sets in OR if there is a severe flesh wound .

no need for meds. dont waste your money and just let it heal on its on.

depending on the age, size, and how severe the torn fins are... it will either be a very short time or long.

I would say that 90% of the time I allow the fish to heal their wounds the natural way. But there are times I feel I need to step in.

In my experience melafix is a good preventative med and I use it if I feel the wound could become infected or a mild infection sets in.

If I have a severe wound, in other words, a significant amount of exposed flesh I go straight to antibiotics, I am not a big fan of melafix and pinafix in these situations.

I am not saying that other ways don't work but I have been very successful at healing badly wounded fish with these methods. But if water changes and melafix/pinafix has worked for you in all that you have encountered, more power to you.
