I have an Eheim 2217 and 2 Topfin 20's on my 55g. I'm looking to get rid of the 2 20's. Any suggestions?

I was thinking a sponge filter would be a good choice for bio filtration, but I've never used one? Anyone have any experience with these?

I'd thinking the 2217 would be enough but for a HOB would my vote would an Aquaclear.

I run a 2217 and AC 110 on my 100 gal works great!;)

Very good combo, the 2217 will handle the bio, while the AC110 will add lots of mechanical filtration and additional bio for backup too.

lol another vote for ac110 or even an ac70 should be ok for a 55 gallon

Sponges work great. I run several grow-out tanks with sponges only. Try Ultimatesponge.com
Much appreciate the link.

I was looking to get rid of the HOB's altogether to reduce noise levels. I've read that canister's aren't great on the bio filtration because the bacteria doesn't come in contact with air so I was leaning toward the sponge but I'm not too sure even how they operate.

Anyone have info on proper placement in the tank or any reviews?

Thanks for all the responses by the way. Everyone loves the Aquaclear, there like the Eheims of HOB's.
