I have a 120G that I would like to put some scavanger fish in but I wanna know which ones are the best? I really like synodontis catfish but heard they hid alot.
Thanks
When I first started keeping fish, I had a synodontis erupterus. He had the best personality in my entire tank. He liked to hide in the castle that I had in the tank, but would spend most of his time outside, swimming the tank.
Now I keep corys, and my favorite is the panda. They tumble over each other and play like no other. Mine are most active in the evening, but are fun to look at the rest of the time too.
I guess it depends on the personality of each individiual fish, but this is just my two cents. Good luck with whatever you choose.
Check out some of the fancier larger plecos. Most scavengers are nocturnal and will hide as that is just what they do. I had a synodontis Angelicas that was just beutiful and he would go in and out of his cave but I would see him. Angelicus is a little rarer than eupterus and a lot more expensive though but worth it in my book.
Are you looking for a scavenger fish to take up the bottom portion of the tank, or a scavenger fish to actually do a good job of scavenging leftover food? I think some species of plecos look really nice but most of them will probably turn into poop machines. And of course cories are awesome but you said you need 6"+ fish
The best scavenger fish I ever had were channel cats. They ate everything but will soon out grow your tank. I had an albino and grey one and they were really great at eating. Now they're in my pond because they grow really fast. Hope this helps, The Doctor.
