Best Scavanger fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
First of all why are people giving out suggestions before knowing what the temperature of the 120g is going to be at and what its tank mates are going to be?

1) WHAT other "bigger" fish are already in the tank list all fish please
2) whats the temperature of the tank

at 75 to 78. I have a angel fish 6in, Leapord C. 6in, African Brown knife 7in, and I plan to eventually get a Delhezi Bichir and a Senegal Bichir.

Anything under 3in will get eaten by my Leapord C. not sure if my african has ever ate anything since he comes out more at night.

silver dollars will scavenge anything left on the aquarium floor.

Yoyo loach might be lunch the ones around here at LFS only two inches. The clown loaches are 5in at the LSF.

I really enjoyed clown loaches but one by one they have all vanished in my aquariums.
Who ate them? Don't know, but at one point I had eight in one tank and 4 in another and now have zero.
They are just too slow and taste too good.

Featherfins are good and all but here are some problems I have with mine.

-does not hide, but spends all its time upside down (no its not an upside down cat) under a tall "root" like piece of fake driftwood.
-cleans his fake driftwood very well, and the gravel area under it, but that's it.
-will chase other fish away from it when feeding
-its face looks like a spider and weird's me out sometimes (teehee)

My geo is a better scavenger than my featherfin.

I am still trying to figure out what a 'Leapord C.' is... But the rest of the fish will be ok with a cory sized feather fin. I moved mine to lower my stocking, but it was with a full grown seng, a short bodied albino, a Delhezi, and a Palmas Poli, along with 3 african knifes and 2 marbled knifes(juvies) in a 90G for a month without incedent.

Since moving my featherfin into my smaller 20G living room tank, I agree with every statement about them, hiding alot during the day, swimming upside down, but not a real active scavenger. I have seen 4-5 of them at my LFS, and they were all 4"+, I got mine from Petco though.

From the above posts, I would say 3 or more clown loaches... Another one to try, as they are cheap, is a dojo loach. The one I have seems to be holding his own with an Oscar (still small @~4.5") and Asain knife(~9.%"), and even a clown knife(10+") at one point.

That fish burrows into my silica sand substrate all the time, aerating the sand and hiding from others. It also sifts the sand alot through its gills, cleaning the top 1" of sand, and is not afraid of anything! Your supposed to have more than one per tank, but mine seems fine as a loaner, as does my daughters loach...She wouldn't give it up for my tank...
