Best schooling fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
as for schoolers rasbora hets stay small utilize mid/top and imo are very attractive once settled in.. and ime rasboras are heartier then most tetras.

atm i have a trio of rosy barbs that stay together fairly well 1.2 m/f. actually added them to my tank because they ate great hair algae eaters.

You really like male guppies. I don't exactly consider them as schooling fish, more like a fish that just likes other fish of it's own kind. But they are really pretty. Lots of them in a 70 gallon would be very pretty. My zebra danios come to the middle of the tank too, they like to school because I have some larger fish with them like blue gouramis, swordtails, and platies. They go all over the place if there are no fish bigger than them but now that there are bigger fish they usually stay to the top more but I have noticed that lately they are coming to the middle more, maybe they are getting used to the other fish.

Is the tank planted? IMO you wouldn't be disappointed with 20 cardinal tetras in a 70g planted tank.

Hows your filtration? I love the look of glass cats schooling in the current

Ps Acei are great schooling fish, although I don't think you will see it so much in a 4 ft tank. I saw a video of them In a 6 ft tank and they were amazing. They also get larger than what you are looking for.

most freshwater fish in the hobby are shoaling fish, forming a loos aggregated network. Schooling fish are fiarly tightly and work more as one unit.

Although i dont have experience with them, it seems that most people agree on rummy nosed tetras as the tightest schooling fish group. there are other fish which work great and are more colorful but they might not form real tight aggregations.
