Best small pellets for baby dats?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was just wondering what to feed this guy, it's my first dat. First time I've seen one at my LFS so I picked it up. Its in my sump with a couple other random fish, they all seem to be eating sinking cichlid pellets except this guy. Still haven't seen it eat for sure.

That looks like a silver dat and it should take those pellets that the other fish are eating after a few days.

I have those small breeding baskets, should I put a dat in each of them to get them to eat the pellets. Or is that to much stress as the baskets are small? I also have a 10 gallon tank they could use until they will eat, they are still 2.5 inches?

Steve, they have floating baskets at Home Depot for pond plants(8"x8"x6") that I use to separate new fish. The holes are big enough for the food to fall through which I like. The breeding traps got dirty fast. If you drop food into corner it will stay inside for a while and breeding traps have little flow..

but you need to use some sort of top on it for these guys, temporarily using Saran Wrap now, I had this one separated, weeding out shadow barred pieces as they stable, and he popped over. Not sure if this is helpful or the best way to train them but when I'm out of tank space, or someone needs time out. These have been handy and not such a eyesore.
