My African tank is starting to get some algae that I can't keep up with. I don't want to put a pleco in this tank. The snail doesn't have to be African. Just something that can survive with them. I have some concerns though. I put a 3D background in about a month ago and I'm worried a snail may damage the background while eating algae off it. Like when plecos scratch Acrylic tanks. Any thoughts on this? And suggestions for snails?

Apple Snails. They are nice and wont mess up the background.

I am not sure about the background since I am cheap and only use the typical rolled up flat backgrounds :)

I just picked up some Assasin snails for my Vic tank. So far they look like they're doing good. Not sure if they will be effective either, but any creature with "assasin" in it's name has to be monster, right?

I was going to get some assassin snails for my 20 gallon when I turn it intoa planted. I might get two apple snails for the African tank and see how they work out. I'll be pretty pissed if they mess up the background. It wasn't that expensive but to tear it out and put in a new one would be such a pain.

.... It's a 3D background...

Oh. Then trumpet snails and maybe a bunch ramshorm might do the trick.

These little guys eat primarily other snails, they won't do nothing for your alge problem.

Agreed.

Apple snails do well in with my Africans. Just make sure they are a little bigger.
