Hi i'm making a tank with 6 Yellow Labs and 3 Firefish (those red hybrid peacocks) and 1 Livingstonii (100g tank)

I want to get 3-4 solid blue fish, what would be best?

I have looked at Blue Dolphins and Electric Blue Peacocks.

What would you suggest?

Also is there any green Africans?

No suggestions of anything different than Moori or Freyi?

btw i meant electric blue hap :P

Best SOLID blue Hap would be the ones you listed above (Dolphins, electric blues). I have a group of dolphins, they are SLOW growers like fronts.

HOWEVER, there are other Haps out there that have blue: Male Eyebiters, Male Breeding Livingstonii (maybe add a few more to make sure you get a male), etc...

Thanks, i'm planning on having a few malawis in my big tank (10ftx3ftx3ft) with centrals, i know you guys don't like mixing them but what of the ones mentioned will get on the best?

I understand Dolphins are kinda weak? but also understand Freyis are supposed to be uber agressive? i have never had any problems mixing the dragon bloods and yellow labs in the last 10 years, but i dont like to experiment to much (i only started mixing them because my friends had)

Are the blue malawis mentioned all omnivours also? so they can fit into my fishes current diet plans (hikari gold, krill, blood worm, peas, cucumber and occasional earthworm)

I went and grabbed myself a male and female Electric Blue Hap (Fryeri) and a baby Venestus today :)

current diet plans (hikari gold, krill, blood worm, peas, cucumber and occasional earthworm)

take bloodworms out of the diet and you should be golden with any african. predatory africans might be able to handle it, but will cause bloat in others... better yet, NEVER FEED ANY AFRICAN CICHLID BLOODWORMS! i've heard too many horror stories of them dying from bloat... good luck anyway! :)

Here is a nice one!

Woah what type is that?

My electric blues should be renamed to scabby browns at the moment lol!! how long until they go blue? they are both (2.5")

I've had Scianochromis fryeri color up at that size before if they are in a species growout tank or are the largest fish. In a community, it will take the longer... maybe 4" or so.

Other commonly available blue haps/peacocks:

-Placidochromis electra types (less aggressive)
-Nyassochromis boradzulu (least aggressive)
-smaller Copadichromis - virginellis, verdunyi, mloto (less aggressive)
-Aulonocara maylandi/Aulonocara kandeense (least aggressive)

Avoid going for large male tankbuster predatory haps. They will not be solid blue unless they are alpha or toward the top of the chain and in that case, they will be mean buggers.

Tramitochromis intermedius, Lethrinops lethrinus and Cop mloto Fluorescent are the only green(ish) fish I know from the lake and they're really not all that green. Really more blue with a green tinge.
