Best "Solo" cichlid?

My current 9" male Midas is in a large community situation and not a glass banger or even that aggressive, but the way he follows me when I walk by the tank or watches me when Im in the room makes him a great wet pet!
In the past Ive also kept a 12" solo male Midas that was an absolute monster of a glass banger. Again best wet pet ever!

i saw this chart that said the midas is almost the same as a FH . they really look a like also ... except the FH has more colours. i already got the midas' but if the flowerhorn is better i can return them . cheapest flowerhorn at the store was 39.99 aha but quality>cost is always the way to go!

A fish becomes a glass banger when it 's terratory extends beyond the confinds of it's tank. Overstocked tanks somtimes work because no single fish can clame a terratoy and the aggression is spread amonge all the fish. Some fish of any individual species may show more agression than others, some are mellow and others are not. What works for one individual may be a disaster for another. It's trial and error. As far as "wet pet glass glass bangers go" the Amphilophus is the front runner IMO. Within the Midas complex the most agressive is the Labiatus followed by Chancho and Amerillo, Citronellus ect.....you get the idea within that generalization there is exceptions where one will be more aggrissive than another. The bottom line is nobody can answer your question with and definate "this is it". Generally speaking an Amphilophus will be a more owner responsive and interactive "wet pet" than A Parachromis. If you like a Jag get it they are beautiful fish, If you want a water dog get an Oscar if you want the best of both get an Amphilopus. There isn't much more I can say.
@Aqua , so true man thanks alot but how do you sex them? their a little small now so i'd need to vent them. it gets pricey when you have to buy lots of fish food to feed hungry bellies

I'm kinda new to keeping sa/ca cichlids and I know overstocking is a common practice with Africans but do you find success with overstocking sa/ca's? I've had a few people tell me it absolutely won't work, but I'd figure it's all about the individual fish. Kinda trial and error , or at least you would think given a large enough tank. One guy tells me absolutely 100% it won't work, but my gut tells me anything could work.....but I'm a noob so what do I know. I like folks who speak from experience as opposed to whey they read somewhere on line or in some book. My experience with other fish is to introduce the most docile first let them grow and then introduce the most aggressive last and preferably make it a juvi. Thoughts ?

I allready voted reluctantly for the Flowerhorn a while back but have you ever seen a tank full of adult Midas of all color morphs? Over here in Chinatown they pull off twenty to thirty adults in a two hundred gallon no problem. Over crowded? Hell yes but tanks are crystal clear with little to no aggression. They look amazing. And if youre planning on buying a Flowerhorn for anything less than a hundred bucks, forget it! Real Flowerhorns are VERY expensive. You can keep your "Devil"-generic, in a community till it reaches a certain size. Then the personality comes out and you will know if you have a glass banger or not. Some never cross over and can be kept in the community for ever but there are the exceptions. More than most other Cichlids that just become posessed and have to be placed in the why me tank. All by themselves. If I were you Id try four of the finalists. One fish might grow on you. Be surprised.
Has anyone ever owned a "Black Nasty"? I am thinking of getting one for my 125. I have owned Jags and they are beautiful. An Umbi maybe would be a nice solo fish.
