Best submersible heaters?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Damn. How do you like it so far though? Does it feel pretty sturdy? I checked out the via aqua web page today & the PDF for the heater says it contains substances known to cause cancer & reproductive harm & to wash your hands after handling it! Sounds like the lead warning I see on different things....that made me a little apprehensive

Well I didn't see that and at that we have warnings like that on 2/3 of everything for our hobby, it causes cancer in the state of california etc. I now wish I'd rinsed the heaters in hot water prior to installing them is all I can say. They feel stout and well built and seem to function great, the wattage to volume rating is lower than other heaters but I'm ok with that if its solid and works well. The controller is great and functions as a thermometer as well. I got the 300 watt for 30 dollars, not a bad price. I'll have to see if they last though.

Although i know this brand isn't cheap... but i swear by ferplast products...

I've used a ferplast heater in my 60G for at least 16+ years and never had to replace it and still works fine... have another 2 (300W) Ferplast heaters in my 200G for the last 2+ years and no problems... and have another one in my small 10G for the last 3.5+ years no problems...

So i'm going to go out on a limb and say this is the best heater out there... since i've tried other US / European brands of heaters and they have all died on me within a matter of a year or two...

Now i'm testing out one of the small 50W Fulval heaters in my paludarium which has been running for only about 3 weeks... so can't comment on how well they work yet...

And in Hong Kong, all the shops that sell heaters claim that this brand of heater is the best on the market... as they've said they seen customers return all brands of heaters which have exploded or i guess cracked in the past, but never seen a fesplast one explode or crack...

I'll have to give that brand a try as well.

Another good thing is they have great customer service and reply to e-mails promptly...

I'll be setting up another 10 or more tanks in the next 6 months and have to order a bunch more heaters. When I do that I'll grab 2 of this brand to try out then depending on my impressions between the 3 (eheim, via aqua, and ferplast) I'll choose my brand going forward.

Good to hear... Cant wait to see the results in a side by side comparison...

Update in the saga, my business partner in the fish thing had contacted Eheim and had been told that the heater replacements would ship that day. Any way over a week on a things start to look suspicious he calls em back and they canceled the order because apparently heaters always leak voltage into the tank. They saw fit to cancel the replacements and not contact us. My friend was told to submit an email inquiry. He sighted that I had already done that over a month prior... SILENCE. Any how we eventually got replacement heaters. This is like the most wonky customer service I've ever gotten. Its like they challenge you, are you sure your right customer? Silly question to ask IMHO, and the lack of follow up when they decided to cancel the replacements was very unprofessional.

Thats some dodgy customer service right there...

The titanium heaters are definitely not as powerful per watt as the jagers but damn they are easy to use, accurate and reliable at this point. I really enjoy them for smaller tanks in the 75 gallon or under category. They are much more compact than the larger jager 300 watt heaters as well, about half the size. I still need to pick up and try that other brand though.

Looked into getting a Ferplast Bluclima, Heater but it appears they are not distributed in america at this time. I can go black market on them but as they are an electronic device I don't expect they'll work on our grid.

In the 6 years this aquarium has been running Ive had 2 agas one cracked in tank, second one built up conversation. 5 tetras (was broke at the time). Then ive gotten two years of use out of this stealth pro. This week Ive noticed that its under recall so Im taking the visitherm replacement, and I purchased a via aqua 200 watt titanium. I will be using the better built of the two. The other will be put in the closet as a spare or sold.
