My stand is 30" tall, I should've gone a bit taller I think. I can't reach the back of the tank unless I stand on a chair and mine is 24" tall, standard 180 gallon and I'm 5' 10".

How many gallons is your sump? My only problem with using a 55 gal for a sump is it will take up 4ft. of the 6ft. I will have in the stand. I wish I had kept the 40gal breeder tank I had. That would have worked out great!
I just picked up the tank and brought it home. I asked the guy I bought it from, how tall was his stand and he said he had built a custom one and it was 54" tall
Though he sold the stand to a friend. I think that is a little overkill, but I'm sure it looked nice.

There's only 2 fish in the tank too and I also have an Odyssey 550 powerhead w/ pre fliter....lol

sweetness. As for the OP whats wrong with having 2 feet of extra space in the stand? I don't keep anything in my stands except for my canisters and my trusty HOB priming cups.

My stand will be enclosed so not as accessable as JLau's standGo ahead and do the 30 gallon sump. Should be pretty easy and you can use jlau's sump as an example or even make the bioball section bigger for maximum biological filtration. with the 30 gallon you should have alot of room available.
