so I've always gone with ehiem or fluval for canister filters but after doing some research sun suns don't seem to be that bad especially for the price. Thoughts or reviews on them?

I'd like to get a larger one... is the 704b best sun sun on the market?

Have 2 and for years now. Work well and no issues so far. 704b is large for home aquariums.

FX4 or FX6, lol!!! Not a big fan of SunSun filters. It's a lot of filter for the money but I've fought noise on all 4 of mine. Don't use the UV at all, not bright enough to make much difference in my opinion. They came out with the huge 5000 but I didn't like the lid seal but I did like the electronic flow control. Wish Fluval would do this in their FX line. YMMV?

Imo, the best one is the one that says aqua clear 110 on the box...

Mine gave out and flooded my office after 6 months......I run FX4, FX5 and FX6 all day long. Worth the money IMO.

Yea for hob if u dont have sand or sand sifting fish.... as soon as a little sand gets around that impeller ull be fighting noise for days
a well fitted pre filter sponge fixes much of that .. i use them on all my ac's (many over the years).. i have had to replace a few impellers , but maybe only 1 or 2 per filter (and none in the 110's , although 1 needs replacing after about 8 years).. it's a tough call .. save money with a low cost can? use an hob? buy a "better "can?..i'd do the hob , but i've quit on sand ... i think i might still do an hob and sponges...:smurf:smurf(even with sand)...

Prefilters for ACs work great. I have 10 ACs on sand bottom tanks, never had sand in any of them. I have powerheads with prefilter sponges on sand tanks- no issues with them either. I have two canisters running in sand tanks with intakes close to the bottom. Again, pre-filters keep the sand out.

My longest running Eheim is almost 18 years old, still silent and it had pressurized CO2 pushed through it for a decade. My longest running AC is 18+ years and going strong. I have one I bought used and have had it running for 17+ years.
