For baby blacks it's springtime only prices vary from over the last few years from $30 to $150. Larger 10-12" wild caught blacks available most anytime of the year from $100-$300.

Silvers you can get babies from dec until june and sometimes see them in even late summer/early fall. $15-$50 larger 6" are generally available year round at $20 -$50

Really? $30 for a black aro? I know $30 is probably very hard to come by but even $150 is cheap for that aro. It would defintly be a single small black aro in the 300 as the top dweller. Is thier a certain size of aro that shoudn't be bought? I prefer buying really small fish so they havent been exposed to a stunted growth, high price, grow up with tank mates and of coarse that they will last longer in the tank.

Also think mentioned in another thread, black aros are less likely to get drop eye..what is the cause of drop eye? Also does adding plastic balls, bobbers really help with it?

Stay away from baby aro with yok sacs, but otherwise IMO no other size should be avoidable. As long as your willing to do the research, proper attention and care that baby arowana require, raising one is very do-able and rewarding. A baby aro should be raised with pretty much no tank mates. If you want a young one that is more stable, go with one in the 5-6" range, but this still limits tank mates. A 12"er would open up to a larger variety of exceptable tank mates.
