Which species are the smallest?

Thorichthys socolofi are the smallest, probably one of the most peaceful of the genus as well.

I have kept all Thorichthys I think, bred aureus, macculipinnis, meeki, pasionis, socolofi, sp.mixteco blue, sp.mixteco gold & callolepis.

To answer your question on best Thorichthys, it is all of them, each and every last one is worth keeping, for me I have always had a soft spot for T.mixteco blue:

Or helleri:

But I have kept some stunning other Thorichthys like these aureus for example, get good stock from a trusted breeder (so no hybrids) and you cant go wrong.

On my most wanted list is actually affinis, dubbed a drab meeki, but to me they look great!

I can post more pictures if you would like.....

I got rid of a group of pasiones not too long ago. They are my favorite of the Thoricthys and do well in groups. I'm now keeping a pair of T.maculupinnis and i can already see they much more aggressive than pasiones.

I kept a group of maculipinnis once and 6 quickly became 1. Mine were extremely aggressive. Started them out in a 55 when they were small where they all tried killing each other, then moved them to a 265 where they continued to try killing each other. Unfortunately for all but one, my Jardini didn't help much.

Thorichthys helleri are pretty impressive as well as 'pasionis'. Here's a pic of each. Actually, there isn't a thorichthys that isn't gorgeous!! I have to agree about 'maculipinnis. They're rough on one another.
