yesterday i went fishing with my dad and little brother,we were pretty late.we started with worms and a bobber and we dident catch anything until it was almost dark.we caught tons of blugill, sunfish, and a big mouth bass.then the next day it was the same weather and everything but we dident catch anything,is this because we were too early.also can i eat all the fish i listed.i will try to get the pics on here.and do you think fish will take a slug.

The best times are dusk and dawn

also can i eat all the fish i listed
ya but check your local laws on sizes.
and do you think fish will take a slug
i guess you could get some with a shotgun.:grinno:
i dont think time matters to much but early and late are better sometimes.

Bluegill will take almost anything, I'm fairly certain you'll get hits if they can see the paler underside. As for eating, check the chemical content of the lake for substances that may be toxic. Bluegill and sunfish would be your safest bets because there is less bioaccumulation of potentially harmful substances since they are lower on the food chain.

Dawn and dusk (it's not an urban legand) and with LMB and bluegill in particular warmer weather is when they are most active.

its all an urban legend.

the best time to fish is whenever you can. and fish move with the times of the day. so you have to follow their patterns.

We're speaking in general here. Fish are typically more active at dawn and dusk, as is most wildlife. When is deer hunting best? Dawn and dusk. When is bird watching best? Dawn and dusk. This is especially true in summer when animals are trying to avoid the heat of the day. It is also when the food sources of most fish are most active and most fish come in towards shore at these times. Granted you can catch fish, hunt deer and watch birds all day long but we're talking about level of activity here. I have always had the best of luck fishing at dawn and dusk. Now you can change your tactics and improve you chances that way but these really are the best times if you're looking to catch the most fish with the least amount of work.

Dusk and Dawn is NOT an urban legend. Not for Surf Fishing anyway. In hawaii predatory fish Jacks, Bonefish, Cudas, Snappers, Etc. are close to shore feeding at these times. I get about 80% of my strikes at these times. There will be about an hour-2 hours where I get multiple hits at dusk and dawn then the action just stops or slows down as the day heats up or after the sun goes down(night action can be good though).

Sorry, it's not an urban legend. It's the best time to fish if you want to stay out of the Sun.;)

The Solar/Lunar tables published in the sports section of your local newspaper or fishing magazines might help you out on the best times for catching fish in your local area. Typically these tables will tell you about the major and minor periods when fish are most likely to be active.
