Just wondering what everyone uses to scrub algae off of aquarium glass. The algae scraper I have isn't cutting it for tough algae buildup on the aquarium walls. Does anyone have any ideas or use any household items that are better than the regular algae cleaners (such as an SOS or Brillo pad) and are also safe for the tank?

i have used a clean sock, and a crappy towel...both work well

paint scraper blades work well. I've heard that credit cards do a pretty good job too. A metal blade will be most effective.

a large pack of disposable razor blades.
i put them in one of these i found at the hardware store

i have been around along time, you will find nothing better then a razor blade for this job, except maybe a bigger razor blade(probably more expensive). For 10 dollars you can get 100 blades. Each blade is good for a few weeks against fresh water algae, against coraline a few scrapes depending on thickness.

I use the standard algae pad, sometimes a little more elbow grease for the really tough spots, then I picked up a Gibboceps Pleco and haven't had to do anything to my glass since.
