Take for example Cichlids. They have wonderful personalities, beautiful colors, and high levels of intelligence for fish. They are also much friendlier to their human caretakers than most saltwater fish, often taking food directly from the hand.
We also have piranhas, catfish (aside from the striped catfish), and of course Arapaima and there are also the Wel's Catfish and Alligator Gar (not necessarily kept captive often, but nevertheless still FW).
Not to mention our rays are much cooler than yours. (Motoros.)
