Ok well it's a custom tank and basicly the owner before me didn't have much room to put a UV sterlizer in the tank, cause it would mean less swimming space for the fish. So what it sounds like he told me he got a UV bulb or something like that place it into where the normal lighting is sposed to go. Ill take pics in the mournin to explain better. It keeps the tank crystal clean and the fish do t et stressed at all.

No. UVC is the highest energy UV light and therefore UVC lights are hazardous, and must be contained in something that prevents the light from reaching your skin, your eyes, or your fish. Do not put a UVC light in your tank's light fixture. UVC lights work by damaging the DNA of bacteria and parasites. You don't want that happening to your skin.

Any other type of UV light will be useless for germicidal purposes, don't bother.

I might get flamed for this by the chemical filtration haters...

But I also have heard Purigen works well for clearing up green water. There was a large thread on here a while ago by people who have actually USED it.

A UV is a good investment though, as it has multiple benefits.

I have not due to lack of funds, but I have looked into them quite a bit. Have yet to hear someone say something bad about them. It will be my first choice when I have the money.
