I have a big piece of drift wood in my tank and a smaller one the big piece in covered in beard algae and its been an on going issue for the past couple months have tried everything but it just keeps getting worse and now it's all over my tank from the fish knocking it off the wood ,it's a real pain in the ass to clean too. I took it out of the tank but its to big to boil is there anything else I can do with out chemicals to try to clean it off the wood and stop it from growing?

I was told that common plecos won't eat it. Is there any reason why it's only growing on the one piece of wood and not both?

What you have is black beard algae. Its hard to get rid of. Very very few creatures eat it. Sae's, mollies and amano shrimp are some of the few with no guarantee.

Your best bet is to pull the driftwood out and then pour strait hydrogen peroxide on to it. Soak it good. Let it set for a while then rinse well and return back to the tank. It should begin to change colors and start to die off and go away after a few days to a couple of weeks. You may need to repeat the process. But it works great with no harm.
