Best way to get rid of snails

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Lots of questions. What tank size? Tank mates? Plants? Any means possible or is there something you have to look out for?

My suggestion for loaches is out of the question in that set-up. Copper will kill the plants. What kind of snails are they? Assassin snails might work.

I've never found a way to totally eliminate snails, other than sell the tank and start new. Loaches and puffers can reduce the numbers of snails, assassin snails eat max one snail a day each, copper is dangerous and doesn't always wipe out egg sacks. Good luck

I heard of people taking everything out of tank and useing a bleach solution by=ut then you have to start allover again. How did they get in anyways?

I don't think loaches are totally out of the question. Mine completely eradicated snails from my 75.

In order for them to not be eaten though, you would most likely need to purchase largish clown loaches to start.

I remember a story here on MFK where in a pet shop, the store manager put on a large collection of coins inside a filter sock and let it sit in the tank for 2 days. All gone for eternity. Of course you have to rehouse the fish and do a massive bleach over as well.

I personally love for snails to thrive in my tanks.
