I'llo be doing a thread all at the one time. This will include my salvaged 55gal that I got for free and sprucing it up for use. So the thread won't be a DIY stand.

Dude, for a 55, you can go with 2"x3"s. Make a simple frame with the boards on edge, fastened with deck screws. Put some steel angle braces in the corners. You don't have to double the 2 bys either. It'll still be way stronger than a factory made stand. Don't believe me? Go to a LFS and check out the stands. By comparison, a stand for a 55 built out of 2"x3"s is overbuilt. There is no reason to way overbuild a stand for a 55 unless you have the cash to blow.

Making a stand to hold a 55g is easy, it's how you want it to look like that's hard. There are a million ways to design a beautiful stand, even with a limited budget. There's different aesthetic considerations....height, color or paint, texture, utility if you want to use the bottom as storage......heaps and heaps or choices.

I want to build a stand now just for the hell of it cause it's fun.

I would like to build one but I have no tools or skills. I failed shop class in Junior High.

It's like watching those wood working TV shows where their like "this is easy just use your $1500 router and this here $2500 so and so" well I bet it's not so easy when all you have is a rusty hand saw, bent up tape measure and a dollar store hammer.

lol
