best way to re-home fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I wish I knew more fish people. Or had a fish club that might help. Sadly I don't have a good lfs that I trust it would be my last option.

I guess I will just have to wait it out and see if I find someone. Maybe I could put a post up at my lfs.

Unless you plan on practically giving your fish away, then I'd stay away from CL. But once in a while there's that one person that knows how much a particularly fish is. I've tried CL about a month ago to rehome my two large oscars, but all I got was people trying for me to give them away. Eventually I took them to the LPS for some credit. It wasn't much, but at least I can use it towards the hobby................

Humm store credit could work if that's what it comes down to. Thanks. I'm trying to just give the uaru away since I got them for free. But no one wants them. Normal people just want pretty fish or aggressive fish. Also not many average people know what they are. I even said in the add I will deliver them with in 100 miles. Oh well. I'm just going to keep posting and waiting.

Thanks guys .

Is Vancouver WA within 100 miles? lol I would put them in my 300g with my pair (although they are around the 9" mark) in a heartbeat. It absolutly sucks that these fish are so underrated... Me and my family love ours but others (uncluding most of MFK) could care less. Why are your getting rid of them if you don't mind my asking? Having issues with the Hoplarchus Psittacus? You put so much effort into them. :(

When I rehome a fish I just take it to the LFS or give them to another MFK'er for free.

Haha, you're quite close to me, I'm in Reno.

If I weren't moving I'd probably snap those guys up, I've been wanting a more aggressive tank setup. :/

Do you know of some lfs that I don't know about? Only one I knew of within like 50 miles is Ofishal Aquarium that closed down. Now the only places I know of that sell fish are chain pet supply stores (Petco, Petsmart, and Petsupermarket).

I'd ask the LFS for a trade/credit. They're more likely to find a good home.

50 miles to the nearest LFS? And, you were willing to drive 100 miles to deliver and still no response? That's craziness. I take living 20 miles from Manhattan for granted. I bet there's 18 LFS within 15 miles of me, and 6 are pretty decent-excellent. And then NYC has some great ones.

I did put a lot of work into these guys All I got was a big fin slap in the face. These guys are not warming up to me at all. They hide all the time only come out for food. They spook so easy. Because of their skitish ways my parrot and acara are more skitsh then they were before. Also I'm getting into discus and want to make some room for the new adventure. When I got these guys the plan was to save them and find them a good home. I don't have the space for them long term. I was never sure I would keep them. They are great fish when they do come and swim around.

I'm just going to let them go to just anyone because I did work to make these guys better. I posted my add again on CL and this time got some more responses. Someone in sac with a 135 gal Is interested. I just need to find out what the stock he has is.

As for fish stores. In Carson there is Jans tropics. A weird place but the only mom and pop fish store around now. It's not the best but worth checking out if your in the area.
