I'm about to trade my redtail cat for a 65 gallon tank. The tank is cracked, but the owner has sent me pictures proving that it does in fact hold water. But just to be safe, I figured I would try and patch it up. I've heard of siliconing another piece of glass onto the inside of the tank that will completely cover the crack, but I have also heard of just using an old CD case if the crack is small enough, so I was wondering if I can use plexiglass? I was gonna pick up some plexiglass anyway to make a lid for my tank.

Post some photos, only then can anyone offer any real advice.

Hard to tell but it looks mostly like chips in the glass.I have seen cases where cracks have been sured up by using suitably sized pieces of glass but I'm not sure how long they have lasted.

Depends on how much you value the redtail.I would be concerned about the possible eventual stress issues from the constant weight of the water. That could be addressed by stacking and siliconing pieces of glass or other material on the underside of the bottom so that they rest on the surface of the stand.

from what I can see it doesn't even look like the Crack is right through the glass. Pictures are a little tough to see though

Why take the risk unless you are really pressed for cash. Bare tanks like that are not very expensive. A new 55 gallon is what, like $100, if that?

Basically...
Redtail is too big for my tank, I thought I would be able to upgrade but things didn't really work out. I just need to get rid of the damn fish, and the tank is the best offer I got for it, the second best being $20, and all others were asking if I wanted to give it away for free. I really don't care that much about what I get for it.
