Alright so I know male betas can mix with some other peaceful fish right? I just bought one today got him in a little beta tank for now, but I was wondering if I could put him in my 30gallon peaceful tank.

His tank mates would be as follows.
1XDwarf Honey Gourami
2XTuxedo Platys
1XBlack Lyre Tail Molly
1XMarbled Molly
1XMolly(don't know what kind its half yellow half black I liked how it looked lol)
1XBumble Bee Catfish

Guy at the LFS said he wouldn't mix with platys and mollys. But I figured MFK would know better then the LFS probably:headbang2

Betta mixed with Gourami sounds very bad idea, given the fact that they come from same family.

Bettas and gouramis are said to be a big no-no. I have no experience with mixing them, but they both are surface dwelling, air breathers, so I wouldn't try it.

yup...probably a bad mix, might have worked for someone else, but might not work in every case. If you do attempt, definitely have a plan B if they turn out to be incompatible in your setup.

I'm not saying it will work, but I have had my beta and a dwarf gourami in the same tank for a year with no issues. Might be luck of the draw though.

Well I may try it, I just don't like him being in a beta tank feels cruel to me -shrug-. I do have a 10 free tho just need a heater for it. So if he wont work out in there I can Put him in the 10 when I find room for it, and maybe find him some tank mates.

Would it be a good idea to makeshift a little quarantine area to hang on the tank and keep the beta in to see how he reacts to the gourami I could always try that too before even putting him in. I have 3 days off coming up so we'll see.

If you have three days to monitor it, I'd advise trying it out. Be ready to separate, of course.

Go for it, see how it goes. Just be careful that they don't kill each other.
