I want to get a beta for my room since my main tank is downstairs because of space issues.

so what do i need for a beta in terms of setup? i have never kept one so i want to make sure i do it right, i think all i need is a bowl but i am not sure...sorry for such a nube question

thanks

Get a 5g and operate it with a few floating plants such as duckweeds, sponge filter and heater. Check water parameters. As for foods, be sure to vary their diet as these are prone to bloat if they eat too much meaty foods.

lol there you go... i think he pretty much covered it
and im not about to try and argue him (even though he's right) because lupin knows his stuff!

but technically they live in just about anything i mean they're bred in whisky bottles

listen to lupin :)

yes they CAN live in a tiny lil bowls and all that other crap.. but it does not mean they are happy... they are fish and should be treated as such.. filtration is a must...

children can be raised in empty 55 gallon drums.. just toss in some food everyother day or so and hose them off once a week and they will be fine....

just cuz its possiable does not make it right..

before someone gets all butthurt about comparing fish to children.. im pointing out that someone will get all butthurt about comparing fish to children..

That says it all.

No need to add anything, it has all been said. Treat them like you would any other fish.

I find peas and brine shrimp can help avoid bloat.

lupin gave great advice! NO BOWLS FOR BETTAS please! lol.. i cant believe ppl still do this.. if you gave a betta a 5 gallon tank it would be the happiest fish in the world.. throw some sand in, plants and a few tankmates.. that'll be one happy fish! lol

id get a few ghost shrimp or a few little fish that are not nippers (guppies) to go along with him.. cheap and easy!

Lupin is one I've come to trust on this sight, he/she has great advice.
They've got 5 g Hex and 5 g Mini Bow front tanks at WalMart for $35 that would be perfect and they look really nice. They come with filters also. The only thing I'd maybe add to the advice is a heater unless the room stays around 78-80 degrees. My Bettas are very personable and I enjoy them 100 times more than I thought I would before I got them.

good to c ur taking an effort to have a right set up for a BETTA lol...good going...
and as some of the experts said above, they thrive anywhere...the biugger the better

yeah my betta is in my 20g comm tank and he loves it!!
everytime i walk in my room he comes up to the glass and greets me!
:D:D:D:D:D oh man i love bettas..

yeah just dont put him in a cup they're not happy
