Is this female betta mature enough to breed. I dont think she is, shes an inch long and the male is quite a bit bigger then her. Iv had them tank to tank and she shows no sighns of wanting anything to do with him. Heres some pics of her.

Female bettas are always small, and it looks like she may be carrying eggs...........

Yeah, she looks eggy. According to betta books, the male and female should be of comparable size, but since females are raised in nasty crowded tanks they are usually stunted. So they might be the same potential size genetically. It's a toss. Try it and watch for aggression. At the worst, you have to separate them.

Ok I tried earlier but backed out and seperated them. The male was quite aggressive but the female easily found spots to hide. Im thinking Im going to let them sit side by side for a day and release them back together tomorow for the more then an hour. From what i read it could take days for them to breed but I just get worried.

I should probably do a betta breeding/care 101 on this site sooner or later.
Anyways, bettas are breedable at the age of 4 months. Doesn't matter how big your male is, or how big your female is. What matters is, are they conditioned for breeding? Most of the time the male will attack the females, but some are more tolerant. Some attack the female because the female doesn't want to lay eggs. Let them see each other for about a few weeks. When she is ready, you will see a round bubble sticking halfway from her anus. This means that she is about to pop out those eggs anytime. This is the best time to let them go at it. Some males won't even breed unless you get them heat up in a fight against another male. Then they will breed with a female. The male will be going for at least 5 days without eating(trust me you don't want to feed the male while he is guarding the nest, feed him and he will get hungry and no more betta fries for you). Feeding the male as much as possible, I even go so far that the male doesn't even touch its food. Here is your best live food source to feed your male before breeding; live brine shrimp, live california blackworms, live bloodworms, live tubifex, and live mosquito larvae(be careful with these guys, you might get in trouble by your city or wake up the next morning itching everywhere :D).
The breeding will last anywhere between 2 hours to the entire day depend on certain betta. It may look like the male is just going to kill the female, don't get scared about this(I know most of you guys will get scare from this...I was once scared from it too). Some female need some serious beating in order for them to breed with that male. Female like to tease their male, they are not just any fish that will breed with any male. They like to test their mate see what they are capable of before going into breeding session. Sometimes it gets too far and you end up with a dead female. But in this situation it is rare, very rare if the female has a white bubble sticking halfway out of its anus. There will be rare cases where the female end up beating up the male. But most of these beating is because the male doesn't want to breed or the female is not conditioned properly. Fighting the male for a few minute(5-15 min) will enhance the male chance of wanting to breed with a female.

If you have any further questions about betta...whether its wild or domesticated. PM me and I will be happy to answer any of your questions. :)

By the looks of the stomach, I would nop.............

Well I put them together and there was some chasing for about an hour or so and over night there was an odd change. They are now coexisting happily. Theres some flaring but nothing like yesterday. They eat together, swim together. Here I thought I would wake up to a war zone. Is this common or just down right weird?

It's common, but it won't last. The male will snap and start pursuing her again most likely. He's probably building a nest, right?

You dont Ever want you Female and male bettas together unless you are breeding them at that moment..bare bottom 10 gallon half full ..some floating plants a heater and a spung filter turned off..... you pute the female in a see threw glass container or a cut down soda bottle for up to 4 days so the male can "dance" to her..untill she darkens and gets Vertical bars..in this time her eggs will come in and she will look like she swallowed a marble only then is it safe to release her..he will chase and beat her up until she gives up and goes to his nest (if she likes it and dose not destroy it)..she will point her nose down and he will embrace her..then squeeze eggs out...over and over again till its done then he will chase her away and even kill her if you dont get her out...

this is all after you have conditions them to breed feeding them the best quality diet as much as they will eat for at least two weeks...

Breeding Bettas is delicate... you can get up to 500 fry that you have to separate from each other with in 6 months.... its ALOT of work

I had my betta's breed once, it was really awesome and at first scary it went a little something like this. I had them in 2 small tanks side by side, the male always flared up and tried to get through the glass to the female. My female was really fat with eggs and was swimming head down (I sign of submission I believe). I saw the male had made a bubble pile at the top corner one day, looked online saw it was a nest so I put her in with him. AHHHHHHH he killed her!!!!! He wrapped his body around hers and shook, then they both float lifeless...did they both die? Oh wait he's moving good at leat he lived, what the heck is he eating, and why does he keep swimming top to bottom. 20-30 secs later oh god, SHE"S ALIVE, wait she's eating stuff to and swimming up and down to. *I look closer they are putting little white balls up in the bubble nest. Ok, they stopped, that was scary....OH GOD HE'S KILLING HER AGAIN!!!! I soon realized they were mating, and they mated for hours, and hours, and hours. When done, he really did want to kill her.
