Are you planning on breeding the Bettas in that 3g half? I would just let the puffers have their own tank and get the Bettas another 10g to breed in. And you can put a divider in the 10g to separate the male and female.
yea i was considering having the male in there and introducing the female and then removing her when done. but my prob is that i dont really have much room for one more tank right now, much less two...oh well maybe it will just have to wait a while and i will just do one or the other...

The puffers are brackish water. im not sure if the beta would tolerate partial marine conditions. i would advise you to choose one or the other.

you dont have nine dollars to spare on another ten gallon tank?
i would just keep puffers

dwarf puffers are full fresh, i have one in a ten and other than the tablespoon per five gallons of water, its fully fresh. I had mine for about two years and he has stopped growing at about an inch.

Its a pia to breed bettas without a dedicated setup and considering they are 3 bucks everywhere, unless you have some show quality ones, there is no point to it.

just my .02

Dwarf Puffers are 100% freshwater.

dwarf puffs may try to commit suicide in a 7 gallon tank:nilly:
I don't think so.

Dwarf Puffers are 100% freshwater. They do not need any marine salt to thrive. The case with nearly every freshwater puffer is that they are fin-nippers. Puffers+ Fish with long, flowing fins= either a really unhappy or a sick fish. Do NOT put any DPs with bettas, it is a very bad idea. This being said, I'm glad you decided to put a divider in the tank, but you would only be able to have one or two MAX DPs in the 7G part. 5G per puffer is recommended, 3G is possible. Remeber that all puffers are messy. They would work in the same water conditions though. I don't think 3G is enough to breed bettas, but I've never tried it.
