My 2 Betta finally started dancing around the other day and mate. I took her out after she passed the eggs and was swiming away from the male. He put the eggs up in his bubble nest and i could actually see the little white-ish eggs in the bubbles. Its been about 5 days now and no babies. Everything I read say 2-3 days. Now when i look in his bubble nest i dont see any white eggs, just bubbles. He is still up there garding the nest. No tank mates, hes all alone, so i know nothing ate them.

Should i still expect them to hatch, mabe just a bit later or do they sound like they wont develope? :(

no tank mates
good water check out
temp - 74 degrees (72-76)

any thoughts?

Thanks,
-Dak

The same thing happened to me Dakkon. My betta laid eggs was separated and the same thing occurred under the same conditions as yours. I blamed it on my male's impotency. Is your male very protective of the eggs? Mine was and so I figured he didn't eat them because he cared toooo much and they were still there.

ya hes very protective.

so did yours ever hatch? I have 3 males, and the only one that worked with her...i hope he isnt impotent ha

I tried to have some faith and left the eggs for 7 days. None of them hatched. All I got was a male betta on a hunger strike because he though he would be a daddy. The only variable that could of explained the situation was the lack of liquid "seed".

aww this is too bad :/ i was looking forward to having betta babies

are they able to mate very soon again?

It should be hatching at the maximum day of 3.. I have a guess that ur male ate his eggs before it even hatched..( This is where many 1st time breeders get discouraged but dont despair my son, u just have to let those pair breed again for the next 10 days, but u have to prepare them.. Feed them once a day with live foods or twice with high nutrition pellets, then let them flare at each other for 15 min a day. Just fifteen ok? Now whe u arrive at day 10 u should have prepared clean aged water in a container (put it on a dim place at ur house) now this is the point where it becomes critical.
First let the male betta go in the spawnin tank 1st.
Second put the jar which contains the female in the spawning tank.
Put a leaf in the spawning tank.
Wait for 45 min until you see the male building a half finished bubblenest.
Aftr this feed them for one last tym.
Then release the female.
They should be spawning a few hours aftr this.
Good luck

The thing with bettas is that the male has to stay with the eggs/ fry until they are all free swimming. Otherwise the babies will perish.

One thing that a lot of breeders do is they condition the bettas in different containers and move them to a breeding tank later where they don't feed the fish at all so that they won't associate that tank with food, so they won't think of the eggs as food. I myself haven't done that, but the majority of pro breeders, if not all, practice this philosophy.

ooh that makes sense, never thought of that

Yup you should not remove the male not until the fry are free swimming.. Also aftr this let the male see his other betta pals because bettas are prone to depression aftr being taken from his beloved fry. Anyway the reason why you should not remove the male is because they do the job cleaning the eggs that is why u see them moving the eggs from spot to spot.. Usualy they eat the unfertilized egg or the contaminated ones to prevent fungal growth in the entire nest..
Thats it. Post ur betta pics wil yah..
