Because what you're doing is ridiculous, irresponsible, and cruel. There's a reason Betta Fighting is illegal in Thailand, where it started. And if Bettas are your idea of aggressive, you havent help many species of fish..

My Question is when did fighting bettas become illegal in Thailand? As far as I am aware both fish, mantis, cricket, and cock fighting are all still legal there. It is the gambling that is legally frowned upon, mainly because it is hard for the government to get thier cut.

I will not debate the morality of these practices but will point out that out of the four listed only in the betta fights do the losers generally survive to fight another day. Traditional Betta fights continue only until submission, not death.

Now, to answer the origional question on training fighting bettas I refer the thread originator to the following site maintained by someone who breeds, raises and fights thier fish. Go to www.siamaquatic.com. There is quite a bit of info available there.

If you must actually fight your fish make sure you get the right strain for it, the show type longfins are totally unsuitable.

$5 for a good plaket is a pretty good price.

As far as I knew Betta fighting was made illegal in early 2004. I knew Gambling was the main part of it, but I could be wrong. Maybe it was just a rumour.

Not to damn you or torment you, but asking a question like that on a forum like this just seems like asking for it. People here seek information on how to better their fishes' lives, and training an animal (fish are animals, too) for fight is not usually in an animal's best interest, to answer your last question.

How do you even fight crickets? lol

I've been interested in fighting bettas myself for the same reason. I do not fight bettas nor ever plan to on purpose. I hesitate to bring it up because the negative reaction it seems to create.
I am a little puzzled at the outcry compared to other things that go on such as feeding live mice to large fish.

To me it's part of understanding bettas. The fighting behavior is part of them even if you never intend to stage a fight between them.
Also I am interested in co-housing males, another reason understanding why and how they fight can become important because in this case one wants to minimize fighting and what better way to do this then understand their fighting behavior.

Male asian house crickets will fight to the death when placed in the same small cage.
