So I've been out of town, and I had someone come and feed my betta fish every night and yesterday she said the water was really cloudy. I told her to replace some of the water and put some stress coat in (I didn't want to make her clean the tank cuz it's alot of work) and today she said my fish was dead and the water was still cloudy. I just want to know what could've possibly happened cuz I don't know much about fish diseases.

Cloudy water makes me think there was serious overfeeding and the filtration was able to handle the drastic increse in bioload.

Well it's a 1g tank, and I cleaned it last Sunday (I put my fish in a cup and rinse out the gravel. Have been ever since I got him in January every week) and since I was out of town, I just told her to take out two cupfuls and replace it and put a tiny bit of stress coat (since you don't need that much for a 1g. I don't know what it looks like or how much exactly the girl was feeding him but I only told her a few pellets.

"rinse out the gravel." You could have removed alot of beneficial bacteria which would have wrecked your nitrogen cycle. Otherwise called a bacteria bloom. Is the tank filtered?

No it's not filtered. But nothing has been going wrong I've done the same thing since January and have had no problem. I don't have a gravel cleaner small enough for the tank so I have to pour the water out and rinse it. Plus it's the way my ex boyfriend told me how to do it and he's had a betta for a year and a half and researches fish alot.

My poor betta was pretty much murdered. Apparently some people are incapable of just putting a few pellets in the tank every night. I was lucky my Bolivian rams and lace catfish weren't dead when I got home either. I had to do some heavy duty cleaning with that tank and filter. There was food EVERYWHERE. Pictures will come possibly tomorrow if anyone wants to see how bad it was .

the first 5 are from my betta tank and the last 2 are from my 20g (I only did the spots where the most food was gathered in the 20g and that is NOT where I told her to put the wafers).
