I see you have Cichlids? Assuming from your avatar...whenever they fight do you consider that cruelty?

Why is it not the same? I would think cichlids being housed in a tank where they constantly have to see each other and fight over territorial is more cruel than fighting a fish once a month?
(This is from my stand on fighting bettas)

I personally said I fight them like once a month did I not...I also fight them to see who is better, for breeding purposes as I do also breed them. Is this also cruel? It happens in the wild where males will fight to get a mate right? Or do they not.....I think you got the wrong idea buddy...I'm not a person or how you said it, a red neck who fights fish and posts them online for others to see. Everyone has their own beliefs, just because someone doesn't share the same idea as you doesn't mean you can bash them away by saying you're wrong and that "my way is the right way, and the only way.":screwy:

Meanwhile I will be

I did not read the thread so forgive me if someone already mentioned it or what not......
Where I stand is in the middle...I mean I fight my betta like once a month but not to death...I usually do it with friends to see who has the best fighter. :)

But in my eyes, fish fighting or animal fighting in general (not the ones where you fight them to death) is just like a sport of some sort in the animal kingdom. I mean we humans fight too like in UFC and stuff, and I know they don't fight to death but I'm also saying it can never happen. Now isn't UFC and stuff cruelty too? It is also for our own entertainment too if I'm not mistaken. Just my $0.02.

i didn't read your post so forgive me if this is pointless for posting. monkeys on cnn three years ago.

just my .02

kudos for addmitting it. ur gonna get flamed now though. lol.
Have to admit, if i breed bettas i would do it a few weeks before i breed to choose the more superior one. not to death but just long enough to choose who is stronger

krzr3000 what does monkeys have to do with anything....
Was it to offend me or what as I am clueless now....

I'm pretty sure that almost all betta breeders out there practices this as well. In betta breeders I mean by selling them and such. I'm also positive this is also more practiced in the asian culture more too. As bettas are native to the southern asian countries, where it is more popular there than here. Fighting a fish for the hell of it or for your own entertainment is totally different from choosing the best mate for the best offsprings/results. But now a days what out there is not considered "cruel."

And thanks for the kudos.
I'm prepared for some flaming...

I'm against pitting two bettas together and watching them maul each other for amusement. I'm also against using animals in a manner similar to gladiators. All it does is give people pleasure from watching animals fight, and as a result, suffer.
