Betta in community tank.

female betta would be fine, some male betta can be too aggressive and eat all the goldfish's fin!

You don't follow any other guidelines so why worry about adding a betta?

I feel like it really depends on the specific fish. I have done it in a 20 gallon but my betta was fairly peaceful. I say go for it but be careful and watch for an hour or so to see if any bad happens.

The guidelines Bderick67 is talking about are probably that most of the fish on the list including betta are tropical fish, that danio need to be in groups of 6+, Goldfish are cold water fish and common plecos often get quite large (exceeding 1 foot depending on the type). All in all, depending on the plecos, your tank has the potential to be sorely overstocked by the 1" of full-grown fish per gallon rule. That, and mixing cold water fish with tropical fish is generally discouraged.

If the fish are happy and healthy, then I don't see much of a problem keeping them with a Betta though, just keep an eye on those plecos and be prepared to rehome them to another tank if they start to get too big. :)

Just my two cents.

I keep a comet with my tropical community, they can live in either warm or cold water and do well. The only real issue with it is the ammonia, that's it IMO. But if you have that under control then you're fine.
And as for the betta, normally it's a no-no, but I've had it work before. I've also had it fail terribly before.
The whole thing with compatibility is the fish itself and its own unique personality. When they say "those two fish won't work together", that normally means that it won't work most of the time (unless we're talking about more aggressive fish. I'm only refering to most community fish).
And when dealing with community fish I always say, there's an exception to every rule, but the question is is it worth the risk?
In this case I would say you're fine, but be ready to remove it quickly if things don't work out.

Just keep in mind that everything I said isn't on the books, it's just my personal expiriences and opinions. So don't go to the bank on anything ;)
