For someone asking for help, you sure seem quick to poo poo anyone who offers advice. While the light is small, so is the volume of water it is illuminating. And while those type lights are used extensively on planted tanks, planted tanks are not as temp sensitive and require high levels of light. I don't think anyone is saying that's the main reason your betta is "sulking", but it may be a small part of the total problem. Eliminating as many smaller issues as you can (as erk suggested) might make your fish more comfortable and get him out of his funk sooner. Why not just check the temp before and after the light has been on? Is it really that big a deal? Perhaps your fish may have sulked less if you had given him away
